From the book of common prayer:
The celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation was a time of special grace for those being confirmed and all the parish members. Many parishioners, friends, and family had been lifting up the confirmation candidates in prayer and fasting for several months. These sacrifices were symbolically offered to God as part of the offertory in the form of a garland. The garland of sacrifice was made from strips of colored paper linked together in a chain with each link representing some sacrifice.
· ORANGE Prayer,
· YELLOW Sacrificial works
· GREEN Study/Devotion
· BLUE Meditation
· PINK Fasting
The resulting garland of sacrafice was estimated at over 1000 links long.

Strengthen, O lord, your servants with your Holy Spirit; empower them for your service; and sustain them all the days of their life.
