Confirmation Class 2007

Fourteen members of Holy Trinity & St. Benedict parish were confirmed May 5, 2007 by Bishop John Bruno at the cathedral center of St. Paul in Echo park.
A special recognition ceremony was held for them the following day at HTSB. Those confirmed were: Glenn Sacoy, Krystle Laoyan, Kevin Singson, Daphne Danggoec, James Ashley Bawayan, Elmito Danggoec Jr., Nadesna Singson, Erin Laoyn, Janice Mangangey, Hazel Danggoec, Gerry Sacoy, Noel Medrano, Kimberly Padua, Sarah Anderson, and Joshua Law. They had all been participating in confirmation classes held at the parish for several months.

From the book of common prayer:
Q. What is confirmation?
A. Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop
Q. What is required of those to be confirmed?
A. It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for thier sins, and are ready to affirm their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

The celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation was a time of special grace for those being confirmed and all the parish members. Many parishioners, friends, and family had been lifting up the confirmation candidates in prayer and fasting for several months. These sacrifices were symbolically offered to God as part of the offertory in the form of a garland. The garland of sacrifice was made from strips of colored paper linked together in a chain with each link representing some sacrifice.
· ORANGE Prayer,
· YELLOW Sacrificial works
· GREEN Study/Devotion
· BLUE Meditation
· PINK Fasting
The resulting garland of sacrafice was estimated at over 1000 links long.

Strengthen, O lord, your servants with your Holy Spirit; empower them for your service; and sustain them all the days of their life.

Clean up Sunday with APWC May 5, 2007

Holy Trinity and St. Benedict (HTSB) is in the process of growing a partnership with the Asian Pacific Women's Center (APWC) www.apwcla.org.
APWC has a domestic violence transitional shelter program and has also been patnering with the Alhambra Unified School District to provide community education and empowement programs in the San Gabriel valley area since 2005. The recently established APWC/HTSB partnership is one of the enablers for the APWC to expand their services as well as an enabler for HTSB to expand our outreach programs to the community. We have committed to work together to bring needed services to benefit the
community.

On Sunday May 5th folks from both organizations came together to continue with some of our renovation efforts in Hultgren Hall. We did some major clean-up, painting, and fixing of several rooms in Hultgren Hall. The large class room behind Hultgren Hall and the deteriorating staircase were the major areas addressed. Thank you to the many who supported this effort. For some photos of the the clean up day click here.
